Yesterday, rumor had it that Xiaomi will launch a $600 device later this year, and I sat down wondering why they want to disrupt a good strategy (Selling high-specced devices at an affordable price) that has helped them accumulate a whopping $46 billion fortune.
Likely answer 1: They want to rub shoulders with the big boys (Aka Samsung, Apple, and Co)
Likely answer 2: They want to improve their brand perception.
Likely answer 3: They want to cater to a different target audience.
Likely answer 4: They want to increase profit margins.
The news was confirmed by Xiaomi’s co-founder Liwan Jiang via Gizmo China, but asides from that confirmation, no-one knows about the phone in terms of specifications. The only rumors circulating is that it could be a Mi Note 2 variant sporting a dual curved screen, but given that the device is going to be that expensive, you should be expecting something over the top, like really over the top.
