Unboxing the Camon CM — A Large Phone Wrapped in a Slim Body.

The Camon CM probably said this to the CX:

And BHAM!! Her wish was granted:

Yes, this is the first phone I have held from TECNO Mobile that got me feeling this way:

…But I’m being too forward, so,

The Camon CM, the first ever phone from TECNO with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Despite the fact that this looks different from what we are used to seeing from TECNO Mobile (Referring to the Full Display), the specs are quite similar to last year’s offering. You have:

  • 5.7-inch display
  • 1440 x 720 resolution
  • 16GB ROM/ 2GB RAM
  • 13MP front facing camera with flash
  • 4G LTE
  • 3000mAh
  • 13MP Rear camera with Quad flash
  • 1.3 GHz Quad-core
  • Android 7.0
  • OTG

The same goes for the accessories — there is the transparent case, MicroUSB cable/ the power adapter and the SIM ejector PIN and the manuals.

TECNO CAMON CM: ALL POWERED UP!

Upon powering up the device:

You get to see that the device uses soft buttons:

You also get to see TECNO’s HiOS:

Of course, those who don’t like the look can opt for a third party launcher.

THE CAMON CM’S BUILD:

Like I said earlier, not only does this thing feel slim, it is also very light coming in at 135g:

The new aspect ratio also means that TECNO can fit the large display while maintaining a smaller body.

However, while watching a YouTube video, I noticed the bars by the side, but this is a known problem for phones with the same aspect ratio.

On the flip side, you can now fit more content in the display.

Meanwhile, the bezels, although still there, have been reduced to an extent and to be honest, it is unbelievable that the CM has such a huge display given how it feels in the hand.

Also, while holding this device, I noticed that the build attracts fingerprint stains.

But that is not really a problem since it comes with a plastic case:

DISPLAY:

On the display side of things, you are not getting an FHD display, instead, TECNO is using an HD with a resolution of 1440 x 720.

PLACEMENTS

As far as placements are concerned, you have the earphone jack on top

MicroSD card and the Dual SIM card slot to the left:

The volume and power buttons which have been placed to the right are quite tactile:

Beneath, you have the mono-speaker grills, and the MicroUSB port — I would have loved if this were a USB type-C though.

As usual, the back is non-removable and therein lies the 13MP back camera with quad flash and fingerprint scanner:

Looking closely, you’d realize that the 13MP camera comes with a slight camera bump, but it doesn’t really affect it from laying flat on the table.

I couldn’t resist taking some pictures and based on first impressions, I think they were pretty decent.

In front, you have the proximity sensor, 13MP front camera, and a front-facing flash.

TECNO has also added a screen protector by default:

FIRST IMPRESSION?

As far as the first impression goes, the 5.7-inch Camon CM looks and feels good, however, a lot of us must have probably rolled our eyes at the specs, but with the price tag of N47,000 do you think this is a fair bargain?

The review would be coming soon, so stay tuned, but in the meantime, let’s talk.

UPDATE: Corrected the price tag.

Creating history... One review at a time.

the CM made me angry… when hot s3 comes out.. I’m sure tecno would loose to them this year… tecno just did rubbish this year in terms of specs… i mean why give us quad core in 2018!!???.. quad core with a crapy processor..2gb RAM in 2018?? c’mon!💔… and please can somebody tell me why TECNO reduced the camera from 16 to 13??? i just want to know why… to me.. my CX is better than this.. no doubt

Guy, this phone is meant to be a budget phone for selfie lovers.

The specs are actually pretty great for the price.

na d 16gig nd 2gig ram spoil am. plus i no sure say fast charge dey sef. abeg for this money, e go be note 4 for me biko

    3. Ransom says:

At least they’d had given us a 3gb RAM and 32gb ROM. Why should I switch from a 2gb RAM and 16gb ROM phone for another phone with same specs? All because of an 18:9 ratio screen HD screen (not FHD sef😎)? I think not. These guys should know that some people don’t mind to pay a little more to get better specd devices.

    4. Wareez says:

Obviously, the 18:9 aspect ratio is the main attraction. Split-screen multitasking would always be a lot better on 18:9 screens.
And camera samples ain’t that bad too.
A pretty decent device in its place: mid-to-low range.

      1. Tamara says:

The split screen is easily a winner for me.

    5. ỌBÁDÁRÀ says:

… WELL, I THINK I HAVE TO SAY TECNO IS BECOMING BORING 💤. MEANWHILE, A FULL HD DISPLAY WOULD HAVE BEEN SENSIBLE AND WHY WOULDN’T THE SPEC SHEET BE DIFFERENT FROM THE CAMON CX? TECNO IS JUST CONTESTING FOR THE JOKE OF THE YEAR OEM…

    6. Kelvin says:

The specs are just “Decent”. There was a Tecno device launched with 3GB RAM. Wonder why it didn’t make it to Nigeria.

Same as the cm just for india

    7. Anonymous says:

I don’t like phone with the 18:9 ratio. Agreed, they are easier to hold but total surface area sometimes is reduced compared to the previous model. Especially if the bezels aren’t reduced. 2018 will show us whether it was just a 2017 phenomenon.

    8. aunty u made a mistake, its N47k not N52k. .but I expected 3gbram ..they released this same phone in India with better specs why drop the crumbs here in naija.

    10. Barry says:

If only it comes with a better display like FHD+. The only thing I like about it is the weight & 18:9 screen, nothing else. Thumbs down for Tecno mobile on this one.

    11. pwilliams says:

Same old stuff…… same old stuff

    12. Enny says:

    15. Alfred says:

What I have seen here so far is not quite different from Tecno canon cm reviewI read somewhere. I would give a thumb up to tecno for this awesome device, but they should try to increase the RAM and internal storage capacity to 3gb or more and 32gb or more respectively.

    16. KingAbsolute says:

I’m wondering if CM is slimmer than L9+

The CM is beautiful and all but it’s still the smart old Camon, apart from the slimness.

The on-screen home button should have gotten rid of the bezels but it’s still there.

Meanwhile the CM build looks like iPhone 7

    17. Michael En Peters says:

Hmmm, not bad anyway.. This device is pretty cool to me. Considering the price, those specs are awesome.
