Yesterday, Microsoft unveiled Internet Explorer’s replacement at the Microsoft Build developer event in San Francisco. The Spartan project would be called the Edge Browser
According to Microsoft, the Edge browser is a modern and fast web browser that provides lots of contextual and personalized information. It integrates with Cortana, Microsoft’s virtual personal assistant to learn from your habits and show you stuff you might be interested in. It would be available on all Windows 10 devices.
With the few features I have seen, I have a feeling the Edge browser won’t be a bad at all.
Some of the features include:
Ability to draw, highlight, and crop portions of any web pages with your mouse or finger (For Touch-screen devices)
You can make Cortana predict what you’re looking for. For example, If you type “stock” Cortana will automatically show you all the stock forecast.
The Edge also has a thumbnail preview of web pages when you hover on a tab – I like this
Its Home Screen has a simple and clean layout
Developers will be able to take their Chrome extensions or Firefox add-ons and, with “just a few changes,” bring them to Microsoft Edge. Belfiore showed a Reddit extension originally built for Chrome, running on Microsoft Edge.
Finally, Meet The New Edge Browser Logo – See Anything Familiar?
I think they want us continually remember the Internet Explorer – as a matter of fact, I think they named it Edge to keep the Explorer’s logo 🙂
In my opinion, they should’ve left it as Spartan – reason being that the Spartan name sounds so masculine, please don’t ask me how.
What do you think about the Logo and the name?
