In exactly two days from now, the world will celebrate women all over the world, but Google has started their celebration pretty early.
To understand the motive behind this year’s celebration, let me share a couple of stats revealed by Google:
- Roughly half of the total mobile gamers are females. Shocking?
- 43% of these female gamers played more than five days a week, compared to only 38% of male gamers who played over five days a week.
- However, despite these impressive stats in favor of female gamers, only 30% female gamers feel games are made for them
With that in mind, Google intends to celebrate International Women’s day by focusing on female developers who have contributed to the Google Play ecosystem. They plan to highlight games and apps created by female developers from around the world — hopefully, we get to see one from a Nigerian female developer.
So, starting this week, you will see a collection of apps (like women’s health tracker, Clue, Abjjad to name a few), games (like 80 Days, Temple Gates Games’s Race for the Galaxy, Landshark Games’s Zen Koi 2, and State of Play’s Kami 2), and even movies/TV shows on the Play Store, which either have women behind them or have strong female leads in them.
They have also partnered with female YouTube creators like OMGItsFireFoxx, CyberNova, Rosanna Pansino, and Gloom to create short behind-the-scene stories about how they started gaming. These videos would be published on IWD.
My reaction to the news in GIF?
