These 42 Smartphones Are Shipped with Banking Trojan. Is Your Phone in The Number?

Bad news for those who love budget phones, especially from not-so-popular brands, like Leagoo.

A Russia-based antivirus vendor—Dr. Web— revealed that over 42 Android smartphones have been shipped with a banking trojan. The trojan in question is called the Tirada Android banking trojan, not a new trojan, but once present can root devices and make it impossible for you to get rid of it without reinstalling the operating system. As stated in the report, the key feature of Android.Triada.231 is that cybercriminals inject this Trojan into the libandroid_runtime.so system library.

So, are the manufacturers to blame? According to the reports:

The majority of the blame lies with the third party software developers who inject malware alongside the applications that come with the phones. In their words:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“This [software development] company provided Leagoo with one of its applications to be included into an image of the mobile operating system, as well as with an instruction to add third-party code into the system libraries before their compilation.”[/perfectpullquote]

Still, that is not to say that the manufacturers don’t share a part of the blame given that it is their responsibility to test and ship these devices.

With that said, check out the 42 smartphones that have been affected so far.

… WELL, I DON’T OWN ANY OF THESE PHONES, BUT A TECNO PHONE IS ON THIS LIST AND THAT SHOULD PROBABLY TELL US THAT, THAT TROJAN IS PRESENT IN NIGERIA 🇳🇬. WHO KNOWS WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN HAPPENING TO OTHER TECNO MODELS AND OR INFINIX, iTEL, INJOO AND CO. MEANWHILE, ALL THESE OEMS SHOULD WORK SOMETHING OUT AS A QUICK FIX…

My sigh of relief was heard in Ghana. However the fact a Tecno phone is on the list should give us owners of Infinix and Tecno phones cause for concern. Seeing one bed bug…………….
🤔. It seems I might have to get the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Pro or a Samsung to handle my finances.
