Whatsapp since its inception has always tried to distinguish itself from other instant messaging apps. And for a while now, they have sat on the number one spot of the most preferred instant messaging app, beating others it met in the game and those who joined after, hands down.
A news just leaked on the internet that Whatsapp is about to release an update that allows the app to support Picture-in-picture. This will allow users to watch YouTube and Instagram clips in a window without leaving WhatsApp.
There’s no word on the exact day of the release of the update, but we expect it to slowly roll out in the coming weeks.
WhatsApp has done really well in terms of updates this 2018, and they are not stopping just yet. According to a reliable site, WABetaInfo, the messaging platform is getting ready to launch picture-in-picture videos on Android.
The feature was launched earlier on iOS back in May, will reportedly allow Android users to play videos from YouTube and Instagram in a small window within the chat app itself. This simply means you won’t have to hop into YouTube’s or Instagram’s apps to quickly view a clip sent by a contact.
However, the outlet adds that the new feature isn’t compatible with Instagram Stories, so you’ll still need to launch the Instagram app for those.
To actually activate picture-in-picture mode, all you need to do is tap on the play icon that appears in sent video links.
This new feature would be another feather to their cap this year, after creating an update that allows joining group calls, suspicious link detection, and more admin controls.
