How To Use Incognito Mode on YouTube

One of the coolest thing that ever happened to the internet is YouTube. You have the freedom to browse through hundreds of thousands of videos uploaded by millions of its users.

But there is a BIG “but” to the usage of the app. YouTube recommends videos based on previous search history. Now imagine you saw a series of X-rated videos the previous night and you quickly need to load a video at the office the next day in the presence of your colleagues. You load the YouTube app and bam! You are greeted with loads of erotica videos, based on what you searched the previous night. Imagine the embarrassment!

There are times when we don’t want some videos that we watched to appear in our history. YouTube has finally solved this problem with its new incognito mode feature in its Android app.

The incognito mode for YouTube is available only on Android smartphone for now. There is no information about it rolling out to iOS devices for now.

How to use this incognito mode in the YouTube app? Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Open the YouTube app.
  2. Tap on the avatar icon on the top right-hand corner of the app.
  3. Then, from the ‘Account’ section, tap on ‘Turn on Incognito’ to activate the incognito mode for YouTube.

In the Incognito mode, the avatar icon will be replaced by a Black Incognito symbol and there will be a Black bar at the bottom with a message ‘You’re incognito’.

Once you have gone incognito, you can browse and watch any video you want and the app will no longer save it in your search history.

N.B: Your YouTube app has to be updated to the latest version for you to see this feature.
