Remember this World cup ad by Samsung?
It was titled the Samsung Galaxy 11 and I think it’s one of the best ads I’ve seen from a Phone brand during the World cup. Unfortunately, Samsung didn’t join in on the fun this year, instead, we have the likes of Visa, Apple (Beats By Dre) and Deluxe Creative Studios from Nigeria.
Starting off with my favorite:
Made Defiant is a soccer-themed ad by Beats by Dre that has got me feeling some kind of way.
The ad connects the journeys of top footballers to the challenges facing kids with big dreams of making it —“They’ve been doubted. They’ve been tested. They’ve been told what to do. But you don’t make it to the world’s biggest stage without doing it your own way.” It features the likes of Harry Kane, Mesut Ozil, Thierry Henry, Benjamin Mendy, Neymar Jr (with a quick cameo from Serena Williams), EVRA!! (I ‘El o Led’ when I saw his apron)…
…DE GEA!!! Fyodor Smolov, Gabriel Jesus, and Raúl Jiménez. The ad was so good that I had to rewatch it a couple of times.
Then we have this ad from Visa:
Nothing exciting here, but it’s great to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Finally, we have our very own, Edu Shola, who is a creative director, tech entrepreneur, and founder of Deluxe Creation Studios. He created a 40-second-long animated ad for the world cup for his brand — Deluxe Creation Studios
Edu took a slightly different tack than most brands mentioned–instead of featuring foreign players, he showcased Nigerian players in their super fine jerseys. The ad’s premise is simple —you don’t have to go to Russia to experience the World cup!
Definitely worth a rewatch!
So. which tech brand nailed it?
I’m currently having a difficult time picking between Apple and Deluxe Creative Studios.
