Face Unlock Goes Mainstream on Infinix Phones! (Updated)

Want to know why I feel some type of love for Infinix phones?

If you own an Infinix Phone that was launched in the latter part of 2017, there is a big chance you’re already using Face ID. Infinix sent OTA updates to most of their recent phones a couple of weeks back including the Zero 5 — to get the update, head over to settings and select software update.

The update ushers in the popular Face ID feature that was debuted on the Infinix Hot S3

As far as the performance goes, it does a pretty good job, at least on the Zero 5.

You also have the opportunity to use the front flash when you are in a dark room.  However, like you all know, Face ID isn’t the best way to secure your phone, but it’s still a great addition regardless.

Own an Infinix phone? Gotten a similar update?

Updated: Apologies for the oversight in the title. Was probably thinking about the X when it was published.

Installed the update about a week ago on my Zero 5. Haven’t used it yet. I’m quite pleased with the FPS and pin combo.

… WELL, THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY I WILL ALWAYS CHOOSE INFINIX OVER TECNO, iTEL, GIONEE AND THE LIKES. IN FACT, THE WAY INFINIX GOES ABOUT SOFTWARE AND FIRMWARE UPDATES, THE BEAT OTHER TOP OEMS TO UPDATES…

I think a tech blogger should know that Face ID is Apple’s proprietary name for its 3D biometric authentication using the TrueDepth sensor, and it is totally different from the regular Face Unlock you have on these cheap Chinese devices.

Bottom line: Face ID is not Face Unlock. Don’t get it twisted.
