I have been playing with Android P on my Nokia 7 plus and the experience has been interesting. Actually, scratch that:
The experience has been:
One of the things you’d get with Android P is the integration of Google Lens in Google assistant. In other words, Google lens now lives in Google Assistant’s world:
Just like what was reported earlier, it has the ability to recognize anything by pointing at it. I have tried it out and so far it’s been good:
But I came across another cool feature that was previously mentioned— the ability for Google Lens to recognize your receipts — In this case, my Chicken Republic receipt.
It doesn’t just stop at recognizing them, you can get Google Assistant to show your previous receipts by using the prompt ” show me my receipts”:
…And this also applies to documents, shipping labels, and IDs.
Not sure if I will ever need my Chicken Republic receipt(s), but for important receipts, this could come in handy!
FYI before Google Lens, you had to download a separate app on your phone — I used Microsoft’s Office Lens—to take pictures of receipts. Also, for privacy-conscious individuals, Google stores all your images and requests on the cloud, and yes, you can delete them.
When do we expect to see this? Well, when Android Pineapple becomes officially available.
Yes, I think Android P might be Pineapple.
