The Battle of the Content Management Systems: WordPress is Eating the Internet

….And the award for the king of content management system goes to:

Of course, WordPress!
That was a no-brainer!

According to the data from web technology survey firm W3Techs, WordPress now powers 30 percent of the web. To put that in perspective, WordPress has had a 5% increase two and a half years after it hit the 25% mark in 2015.

Data in 2015

However, it is important to note that 50.2% of the world’s websites do not run a content management system, but for websites who do, WordPress has garnered over 60% share which is a far cry from what Joomla, another content management system, and the second most popular CMS has:

Want to know something I found interesting?
Well, it’s the fact that Squarespace and Wix (Wix is quite popular on YouTube thanks to their ads):

Only have 0.9 and 0.5 percent share among CMS-users respectively.

In my opinion, WordPress’ success as the CMS of choice for popular platforms and brands could be tied to its simplicity, especially when compared to other CMSs. Another important factor is the fact that it is open-sourced (more themes and plugins thanks to this) and free of charge.

  3. WP has always been the best out there
I started with blogger but the frustrations and stress is too much to cope with constant update. So I switched to WP and since then I have more time to update than customising.
