It’s safe to say that LG has won the award for the worst-named product of MWC 2018 with the V30S ThinkQ.
The name aside, the LG V30S ThinkQ is a slightly improved version of the LG V30, slightly because, you are getting an increased RAM/ROM and AI capabilities.
In other words, S represents the increased storage/RAM and the ThinkQ part represents LG’s new AI that will be integrated into their phones moving forward (hopefully). So with ThinkQ, you have an AI Camera which recognizes the subjects in the frame – be it your cat or a bowl of chips – and adjust the camera’s settings accordingly. Then there is QLens, which can attempt to recognize specific objects for the purposes of shopping, price, and image searching online, more like what Google lens and Samsung’s Bixby can do.
The QLens can also…er… read QR codes :
…And communicate with all your existing and future IoT, smart appliances. Form-wise, the V30s ThinkQ is identical to its predecessor, there are new color options, though. It also packs the same specs as the LG V30, but like I said, the 2018 model has bigger RAM and storage— from 4GB to 6GB RAM and from 128Gb to 256GB ROM.
Honestly, the LG V30 ThinkQ isn’t exciting, and I wonder why LG had to make a brand new version of the V30 to integrate these AI features.
So, ThankQ LG, but no thanks!
