Allow Me to Reintroduce Tecno's 'Bigger & Longer' Device — The L9 Plus.

A lot of people, especially the perverted ones had a field day with Tecno Mobile’s theme for the L9 Plus — bigger and longer.

Before I delve into the unboxing, can Kay and William send their numbers to tobi dot ayeni at
Yes, the teaser image (Which was quite easy to get, side eye at those that said the CX) is the Tecno L9 Plus, the second device in the Tecno L series.

Immediately you remove the wraps and open the lid, you get to see the 6-inch device.

Under that, you get another package which contains the flip case and pin ejector, I will be coming back to this later.

Finally, you get other accessories.

Which include an earphone:

The flip case mentioned above.

USB OTG cable.

A warranty card:

Power adapter, and a Micro USB cable.

Anyone notice something missing with the accessories?
Yes, no manuals!
I wonder who still reads them in 2017.

The first time I saw the full-metal unibody device, I kinda understand why it’s being touted as a bigger and longer device.

Like other devices in its size category, the dude is so big, it can barely fit in my hand.

However, I also noticed how light it felt in the hand— it weighed about 185g which is quite light if you ask me.

Especially when you compare it with the Zero 4 plus
If you add the flip case, you get about 223g.

It is also very slim with all the right curves in the right places.

You get the usual placements, which include:
1. A 3.5mm earphone jack on top

2. Lined up on the L9 Plus’s posterior are the mono speaker grill, Micro-USB port along with the mic.

3. At the back, you are greeted with a 13MP back camera, LED flash and the fingerprint sensor.

Yes, there is a slight camera bump, but it is barely noticeable.
4. On the left side, you have the Dual Micro-SIM card slot along with a dedicated button that activates either the ultra power saving mode, camera, on/off torch or music.

5. The right side of the device houses the power and volume buttons. You also get a dedicated MicroSD card slot.

7. There is the presence of the physical buttons.

6. Finally, you have the front flash, proximity sensor, and a 5MP front camera placed on the top part of the device.

Other specs can be seen below.

Before you get in this mood:

Recall that the L9 Plus’s major selling point is the battery, so, maybe, just maybe, they had to sacrifice a lot in the specs department to give you a great battery at that price tag.
One thing I noticed while observing the L9 Plus is that it comes with a screen guard.

There is also the power inscription along with the Tecno name at the back of the device just in case you forgot how great the L9 plus is in terms of its battery.

Setting it up is a breeze and I couldn’t help but notice that Tecno Mobile removed the “Don’t lick the battery” tip found on their latest devices.

My prayers weren’t in vain.

Finally, am I the only one who thinks that the new HiOS icons look too big?

Oh, did I mention the price tag?

Thanks to the recession, you would need N65,000 to get the Tecno L9 Plus.
Anyone looking to use my ATM card to pay is free to do so for FREE.
There you have it people in tech, I will be putting the L9 Plus through a series of tests, so stay glued for the full review.
As for my first impression, I love the fact that the L9 Plus is a light-weight. Like some of you must have figured out, I like my devices cute and petite, but if I have to use a big device, then I don’t expect it to weigh a ton, so high five Tecno.
Tecno Mobile be like:
Over to you, what do you think?
Meanwhile, I am trying to spice up my reviews, so any suggestions will be welcome.

Is the full review going to be written or a video review?

I am thinking written, but which would you prefer?

“The dude is so big it can barely fit in my hands” ….Lol, i see what you did there.
I impressed with the device. please do put it through those tests you mentioned. I hope to get one real soon.

    1. Randall says:

What at all did she nail? I don’t even understand. There is nothing special about this review. Or do you guys watch review about only Tecno products? Smh

  7. KingAbsolute says:

Who unbox better than Tobi? Am looking forward to the review (I prefer written).
It’s believed that the L9’s battery is the asset of the phone. But, other things like the screen size (6 inch, which I like), the 2GB RAM, android nougat, and fast charging are not bad at all.
Absence of 4g LTE and higher mega pixels won’t hurt a lot.

    1. Ademola says:

Exactly my thoughts too. Come to think of it, how many of us even have a 4G sim yet?

  8. Kaybang® says:

*slowly peeks into review article*… *slowly reads review*.. *crosses hands🙅* *slowly talks*
Whereee will I even start from with this review? I mean, the language, the Corleone Fox GIF, the everything. Chai!
Let’s leave that one for later. I wanna talk about the reviews spicing-up.
Not sure if you’re talking bout types of reviews or…? But I was thinking..,
    1) Gaming; would be great if you did some game reviews. Not just mobile Android/IOS games but “maybe” console🎮 as well🙊. You own a ps4 🎮 after all don’t you? I expect game reviews to be time consuming but it wouldn’t hurt to ask😧
    2) App reviews; you were having these sturv “app Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays” or something like that. And while I really loved those, unfortunately for me I couldn’t participate in them since I was using a symbian smartphone back then. I only bring this up cus u reviewed some very unique apps. And now that I have an Android it won’t hurt if one gets directed to good s-t☺😊😊
    3) Live Sessions; this won’t go down well with anyone here cus it’s gonna take a massive cut out of their data usage but whatever. You know how you always leave us in the dark whenever MAN UTD is playing a match? Imagine being able to watch the game and still talk about your favorite tech topics, answer live questions, report & react to breaking news etc. That way everyone wins don’t you think? And because your site is VERY inclusive, you can spread the sessions across various social media platforms.
    4) CAMEROON PEPPER; what? You’re d one that asked for ways to spice up your reviews. How you haven’t thought about this is beyond me. Next time before doing a review, buy 50 or 100 naira worth of Cameroon pepper and sprinkle round the office. Now how’s that for spicing-up?😊😊

    1. Tobi Ayeni says:

      OH, MY DAYS!!
I could hug you right now.
      Thank you for this, really!
I really don’t know what to say.

  9. Babatope says:

Great unboxing. I’m relieved it is running Nougat, I’m curious to see Tecno’s take on it.

  10. Victor Molokwu says:

I love the looks, but my current device still have one more year to go before a thought of replacement comes to head.

  11. kumar says:

I used to think big battery Smartphones will always be big, bulky and ugly but the L9plus is a deviation from the norm. This actually looks pretty sleek for a phone packing this much battery.

    1. Ademola says:

I wonder how they packed such huge battery in it without weighing much.

  12. Barry says:

That’s an amazing review, Misstechy 👍. I really like your gifs, all of them, you must be a comedian. The problem I have with the phone is the display resolution (720x1280p) it’s too little for an android 7.0″ device. 1080×2160 would have been nicer.

  13. bulus says:

Battery focus review will b appreciated like charging time and 4hrs video loop playback

  14. ỌBÁDÁRÀ says:

    1. Ademola says:

I dey tell u. I am a big time heavy user.

  15. bodexowen says:

Misstechy, what camera do you use for the above pictures and your video reviews??

    1. Kikky says:

Yes pls, I really will luv 2 kno too.. .

  16. Ademola says:

Nice review. Hope to see a video review soon.

  17. Ify. .. says:

Hi. Please how I do I open the sim card slot. I just got the phone but having issues inserting the sim. Help!

    1. Joshua says:

Use the Sim card ejector… There’s a small pin like metal that came with the phone… Where the Sim is push the ejector into the tiny hole a little to your right, should do the trick

  18. Holawalay says:

I like to see u doing review ,one of the best if not the only best site that does review rite,I owned an infinix note 3,ur reviewed brought me closer to the fone b4 purchasing, now the tecno l7 is just a carbon copy of infinix note just the customos ,everything else is infinix note on the l7. I hope the battery gives the work of 5000 unlike note 3 with 4500.

  19. Behankey says:

Is there going to be a better unboxing story than this? I’m impressed with everything. From the article to the phone in question. How did they manage to fix that power into the slim body? Tecno on some wizadry stuff.

  20. OlusegunAde says:

Safe to say this phone defies the norm. Big battery devices are known to be big or weigh more. This one is different, slim and weighs just average. I like it.

  21. Scarycuteface says:

Decent unboxing review. Well detailed too. Makes one imagine what the phone looks or feels like without even seeing it. And as a big fan of long lasting battery life, I’d say this is just the perfect phone to get.

  22. AngelPiro says:

tobi u are definitely the best tech (phone and others) reviewer I have ever seen or come across. please when are you doing the full review?

  23. Randall says:

What at all did she nail? I don’t even understand. There is nothing special about this review. Or do you guys watch review about only Tecno products? Smh

  24. The phone camera is slightly disappointing

  25. NAIJAAA says:

I don’t really want to call this phone big for nothing… aside the big battery, there is nothing special about this phone.
    Great review by the way.

  26. paul david says:

i expect d phone to have at least 3g ram, 32g inbuild nd 4G network, L series shld also come up fhd.

  27. Ojulius Associates says:

Pls I can’t still not getting how to open the tecno L9 back cover

  28. Igweka Emekalum says:

Wow. At the end am now a proud user of tecno l8 plus. There is a whole lot things so special about this phone and I advice you to get it.

  29. I don't want you to know my name. says:

looks like the infinix note 3

  30. Anonymous says:

the phone is 1gb ram and not 2gb ram. really want to the difference between l9 and the l9 plus.

  31. Abdull The1 says:

    Thanks for the review.
It seems like the phone doesn’t support apps installation on SD cards.
It is a bit frustrating actually, because too many apps on the international memory can lead to slow performance of the phone.

    1. Prisca says:

Abdul the1:: do u have the phone? if yes how much dd u buy it? and are u serious abt what you just said cos I want to buy it

  32. Saibaba says:

Sir/Ma can I use ur ATM? I promise I won’t take much time only to get the device now that Baba’s back.

  33. modibbo says:

  35. Okblaze says:

The screen resolution is good but I don’t trust tecno when it comes to superior.

  36. Youngzeal says:
