I no longer get excited when I read about a new social app from Google.
Remember when I talked about “Meet?” Google has officially announced the service, along with another one — “Chat.” However, these two platforms are basically splitting up Google’s established Hangouts into two separate platforms hence the name ‘Hangouts’ Meet and ‘Hangouts’ Chat. However, these apps won’t eradicate the original Google Hangouts as it will continue to exist.
Like the name implies, “Hangouts Meet is a new video meeting experience with one goal: make joining meetings effortless so that people can be as productive as they are when they’re face-to-face.” While “Hangouts Chat is an intelligent communication app for teams that takes direct messaging in Hangouts and evolves it to reflect the way modern teams talk business.” which basically sounds like Google’s attempt compete with apps such as Slack
In other words, and as initially stated in the previous post, this is Google’s attempt to compete with the likes of Slack or the new Microsoft Teams.
Hangouts Meet is available, but Chat isn’t open to all users yet.
