YouTubers in Nigeria, Don't Get Too Excited. The New YouTube Feature, Super Chat, Might Not Be Open to Creators in Nigeria.

Yesterday, YouTube unveiled Super Chat, Google has described Super Chat as a “highlighted message in the chat stream that stands out from the crowd to get even more of your favorite creator’s attention”

Gibberish, right?
So, in layman’s terms, Super Chat allows you to give your favorite YouTuber(s) money, so that your comment will remain pinned to the top of the chat for up to five hours, the more you pay, the longer the comment gets pinned to the top — This is similar to paid advertisement of some sort, and it’s another way for YouTube creators to make money.

If you haven’t figured it out, yet:

So, yes, you would need money to use Super Chat as a viewer, but YouTube said the tool is designed for viewers aged 18 and older.
Now, if you are a YouTuber in Nigeria, you shouldn’t get too excited, because there is a possibility that this won’t be available to you. Here is why:
Super Chat is supposed to replace Fan Funding, another YouTube feature launched in 2014 that lets viewers make voluntary payments to support creators directly, unfortunately, Fan Funding isn’t available to creators in Nigeria, which means that the possibility of having Super Chat open (to Nigerian Creators) is close to zero.

YouTube will launch Super Chat on the 31st of January for creators in 20 countries and viewers in more than 40 countries. So, let’s hope Nigeria is among the “20 Countries.”
