Why MissTechy Was Unavailable for Several Hours.

Picture this:

You own a fast food restaurant, and business is good. One morning you wake up, take a shower and put on your work clothes, just like every other day. You drive to your restaurant and as you tried to unlock the door to get ready for business, you notice something weird, your door wouldn’t budge.

Looking more closely, you see that the door is actually welded shut.
You run to the back entrance. Same deal.
There is no way anybody is getting in, at least for the time being.
Suddenly, cars start to roll into your parking lot. A few noticed your locked store and they drive away. Others stop to ask you what’s going on or when you’ll be open for business, unfortunately, you don’t have an answer for them.
Yesterday, this happened to me – not with my imaginary fast food business, but with MissTechy.
It was down for more than 5 hours yesterday, which in the online world feels like an eternity. I even got featured on Nigerian Bulletin and Nairaland.

I got in contact with my Hosting company via a web chat, I was told that MissTechy was suspended due to the high volume of traffic it was receiving and the only way to reverse this was to call their customer care lines. I immediately did that only to be put on hold for about 2 hours (Not toll-free) because of the volume of calls they were receiving.
Breath Tobi…breath.

To cut the long story short, I got through, reported the problem, the solution they offered was to migrate to a higher VPS plan, a more expensive one, something that wasn’t in 2017’s  plan.  After taking like a minute or less to think about it, I went along with it, this time, I went for the monthly plan (Instead of my usual yearly plan)  because I plan on migrating to another web host.Image and video hosting by TinyPic
At about 11:00 pm, MissTechy was restored and I was finally able to breathe well.
I can’t end this without saying a big thank you to friends and readers who sent messages or called. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Here’s hoping that this doesn’t repeat itself.

It’s a good thing you plan to change your host. They failed to notify you about high volume of traffic and simply took your site offline. What a bunch of amateurs. Glad you back up.

    Hi Tobi ,
Sorry about what happened. If you’re looking for a good host , I highly recommend turbo plan which costs about $24.99/month. A little expensive but WORTH…EVERY…PENNY.
That is what I use for my high volume site (with over half a million hits every month) and I can’t remember the last time I had a server downtime.
I addition , i’ld suggest you also use CDN service like to reduce server load. They have a free plan to start with.
If you need help with migration , you can always get in touch with me.

Hey Kelvin, thanks for the suggestion, Kay recommended Knownhost, right now I am looking at your option and linode.
Meanwhile, we have a beef to settle.

      1. Kelvin says:

Haha! I’ve just sent you an email (your gmail) , I hope you reply.
Anyways, i’ve never heard of Knownhost so I don’t know if they’re good or not. Linode is also good but I don’t know if you’d be able to handle the technical aspect.
And if you’re considering a Nigerian host is the best. Their customer service is SUPERB. There was a time I created a support ticket around 2am in the morning , and got a reply 20mins later.
        Caveat : Avoid , &

Nice to see you back. Move to BlueHost at $4.95/month. Unlimited Bandwidth. This inmotion hosting can really let people down.. See you at the top.

    1. Tobi Ayeni says:

Thanks for the suggestion NTG, Unfortunately, I stopped using shared hosting last year because of the traffic volume.

      1. NaijaTechGuy says:

Okay… If there’s any better hosting provider I’ll let you know.. I also noticed something. Check if your Google Analytics is still tracking properly. Your Alexa rank is dropping badly..

Misstechy try namecheap I use them they offer unlimited bandwidth and it’s cheap than inmotion hosting

  5. I can only imagine how you felt, glad u resolved it.

Glad you’re back. This isn’t sponsored tho, but I think you should try WhoGoHost. They are Lagos owned & run, and they pride themselves in the speed & availability of 24/7 customer support. Plus, they have cheaper plans…I think. ☺
Also want to suggest you strengthen your social media presence, Tobi. Imagine you had a vibrant community on Twitter, Instagram & Facebook, the downtime on the website won’t have been much of a headache, plus other benefits you already know that would yield.
    It’s nice you’re back again tho. 👏👏👏

  9. It’s good to hear you are back, sister. We hope this unfortunate incident won’t happen again. Keep soaring high.

  10. Welcome back… you were missed

  11. KingAbsolute says:

So they put down your site because of “traffic it was generating”? Enemies of progress, why can’t they keep it professional by contacting you first, they just acted like haters.
It’s a good idea you’re changing host soon. I still got issue trusting local host with your “international” website.
Am happy tho, that the shutting down was as a result of your continuous elevation.

      1. Precious says:
