From Tobi Ayeni: Let’s give a huge welcome to Amaka, a new contributor on MissTechy, she will be focusing on design and tech. Do enjoy
1. Aesthetics: The current trend in designing consumer electronics is to make things slicker, shiny and thinner.
Mobile phones have gone from big and bulky to small and bulky to small and thin and now to big and thin.
Whatever size cell phones have evolved to, how they look plays a huge part in appealing to the consumer. But aesthetics only takes it so far. Let’s look at the other criteria.
2. Functionality: Sometimes functionality aka ease of use even trumps aesthetics. If it’s complicated to use, consumers will drop your product like it’s hot! That’s why with each product, an important consideration to successful brands out there isn’t just how cool their products look but how easy it is for the consumer to use. I’d take a functional item that doesn’t look great over one that looks good but doesn’t meet my needs!
3. Details, Details, Details: It’s all in the details. So you know when you come across a shortcut and you’re like where have you been all my life! That’s design in the details.
4. Affordability: Last but certainly not least, it’s got to be easy on the wallet! No one wants to use their year’s salary just to get a gadget.
Money doesn’t grow on trees. Who agrees?
