For every good machine, there is a bad one, we’ve seen this time and time again in movies like Terminators to Transformer. Moreover, in reality, the likes of Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk have warned about the potential threats posed by artificial intelligence. But lest we become too complacent about these automated beings, it’s important to remember that these obedient and loyal creatures could flip out due to technical issues.
In this case, it didn’t take much for this particular robot to switch to the evil side (Well, not really evil, but let’s just go with that for now).
According to ABC 7, a 16-month old baby was run over by a 5-foot-tall 300-pound security robot at a California mall. By the way, the Robot was meant to protect human lives by alerting the authorities of abnormal noises, sudden environmental changes, and known criminals in the mall, it uses lasers, thermal imaging sensors, 360 videos, air quality sensors, a microphone and other technologies to do this.

So how did a Robot that was meant to protect humans flip out on a 16-month old baby? We don’t know what the child did to aggravate the robot, but according to the mum, “The robot hit my son’s head and he fell down — facing down on the floor — and the robot did not stop and it kept moving forward,” He suffered a swollen foot and several scrapes and it could have been worse if the father had not pulled the boy away.
I am sure some of you are like “Only in America” or “The child must have done something really bad.” But we should remember that these are automated beings and just like the way hackers could wreak havoc to our Smartphones and PCs, someone could log into a robot remotely to steer them in the wrong direction.
Not saying this is what happened here, but it could be.
