Oshodi, As Captured With The Camon C9: The Tecno Camon C9 Camera Review

Now that you have seen all that the C9 has to offer in terms of display, performance, and battery, how about a look at the “much-talked about” camera?

The C9’s camera UI has the same interface as that on the Boom J8.

I must point out that immediately you select the front camera, you will notice that the beautification setting is automatically switched on (If you have been following MissTechy, you should know how much I hate this setting on any phone, even the S7). Of course, this can be switched off, if you don’t care for it.

On a rather unimpressive note, the Camon C9 didn’t have so many camera tweaks. I was expecting to see a lot of manual camera tweaks, like changing the ISO, aperture and what have you, but I guess Tecno Mobile tried to simplify things so that the Pros and the laymen can use the device effectively. You just have the Night mode, which enhances the photo for night photography. There is the slow-mo mode for Videos

Galaxy S7, is that you Fam? The selfie panorama mode on the Tecno Camon C9 reminds me so much of the  S7.
Finally, this I love, the sticker mode, this will bring up stickers on the pictures. Although there are just six stickers, but I hope Tecno Mobile adds to the list.

Just like the modes, you only have  a few settings to play with for pictures and videos.

A little warning, If you are a dude, just scroll down to the next item, because this is strictly for the ladies or gays ?
So, Tecno has something they call the beauty mode, that really does an amazing job when it comes to making you look “unnatural.” There are different things you can add to your faces such as Foundation, Lipstick, blusher, Eyebrow, Eyeliner, Eyeshadow, Lenses, to name a few. Talk is cheap, so check out the before and after photo after I applied the effects.

Moving forward on MissTechy, I’d try my best to capture cities in Lagos for your viewing pleasure. For the Camon C9’s camera test, a random user (someone who isn’t a pro when it comes to taking pictures) took the device to one of the busiest places in Lagos, Oshodi. Check them out:

The aperture on the Camon C9 meant that there was an impressive depth of field when taking pictures. (As seen in the image below, the focus was on the right-hand side, but see how the other characters looked blurred).

Thanks to the night mode, the rear camera produced semi-great outputs at night.

Indoors, I had issues with the camera sharpening under low-lightIMG_20160706_135525
Although when it comes to people photography, it produced nice outputs. P.s. this image was taken with the rear flash switched on.

It also produced nice output with artificial lighting.

I have seen several comments regarding the front-camera output, especially given the fact that it comes with a 13MP front-facing camera, but the moment everyone realizes that the MP doesn’t make the camera, the better. With that said, the front camera on the C9 is rather decent, definitely better than the C8’s. But if you were expecting an over the top result because of the 13MP, I am afraid you might be slightly disappointed. Here is an indoor selfie with natural light
An outdoor selfie:

Finally, the night selfie was way better thanks to the soft flash and the night mode. However, without these two things switched on, the C9 couldn’t perform under low-light conditions.
From the samples, the rear camera definitely performed better than the front camera despite the fact that they both have the same MP which reinstates the fact that a camera’s MP is not all that a phone needs to produce great pictures.

Asides from the regular crop and rotate tools you have the Mosaic and blur tools. You also have about 7 nice filters.

  1. The front facing camera quality is lacking under low light (P.S.: you will need to put on the flash and night mode most of the time.)
  2. Lack of camera tweaks as earlier mentioned.

That is all for the C9 camera review, if you haven’t read the full review, you can click here. Of course, your thoughts are most welcome 😀

Nice work, Misstechy. I’ve been secretly following your blog. Want to be like you soon. This phone’s front camera can replace the word “overrate” in the dictionary. Aperture and IPCs are what define a good camera. I think people forget that this isn’t a DLSR. It’s a 50K phone. Nice rear shots, but I didn’t see the depth of field or do I need more Vitamin A? Patiently wait for the Infinix Hot S. I’m a Blackberry and Huawei fan btw.

    1. Tobi Ayeni says:

Hey Godspower, thanks for the kind words :D, given that an amateur took the picture, it wasn’t so obvious. But try putting your phone in landscape mode to view it better.

    2. prince says:

Hot s might do something better i guess

    3. orator says:

I perfectly understand what MT met by the great depth of field. Phone or DLSR with large aperture does that. It will be hard for any devices in its range to beat this camera on Camon C9

  2. KingAbsolute says:

This phone camera is just something else, its really living up to its name CAMon.

  3. Victor Molokwu says:

    Decent pictures.
oshodi looks good via the lens of the c9…
Thought I was the only one who hated that beauty cam mode…
I still think a finger print scanner is way better for a user like me than the eye scanner..
I’m still the biggest Infinix fan out here, I wishing the hot s doesn’t come with some eye scanner though
