A Google Branded Smartphone Is On Its Way, Hopes To Challenge Apple's Dominance

To date, Google has left the manufacturing of their Nexus devices to other smartphone vendors. But that is about to change, based on a report from The Telegraph.

The report states that Google is planning on launching their own Smartphone that won’t have the Nexus tag, but will be designed and manufactured by Google from start to finish.

Apparently, Google is worried about Android’s fragmentation and the limited control it has over its implementation which is quite the opposite for Apple. Therefore, by making its own phone, they will not only allow strict implementation but will also set a benchmark for other manufacturers to live up to.
The only thing I don’t understand now is this: Why sell Motorola since they probably have this in mind?

… WELL, TO ME, THAT’S ABSOLUTELY NOT NEEDED. IF GOOGLE IS REALLY SERIOUS ABOUT THAT, WHEN THEY ACQUIRED MOTOROLA THEN, WHY NOT CONVERT THAT TO FULL GOOGLE ORIENTATION, WHY DO THEY HAVE TO SELL THAT OUTFIT?
MY TAKE, GOOGLE IS NOT YET SERIOUS ABOUT THIS…

Despite the sale of Motorola, I’m pretty sure that Google can raise a dedicated mobile unit in a matter of minutes (tech time scale) Tobi.
The new idea is slightly different from the Motorola one as Google intended build the Motorola brand not their own.
Google has always wanted to set a standard for Android phones hence the nexuses and the Android one phones, but had never thought to put much financial backing behind the thought.. Guess this is about to change.
A Google phone is a very inviting prospect for stock Android enthusiasts like me. I’m really looking forward to what Google have up their sleeves.
Tobi, don’t you think that a pure Google phone will not just threaten apple, but the Samsung dominance in the Android ecosystem as well?

If you ask me, I think Google sold Motorola because they didnt want people to see their device as motorola device but a full-fledged google device just as you said “Google from start to finish”
Also i think the idea of starting a smartphone is a pretty solid one and I wouldnt mind owning one..timely software update, ultimate stock android, and a big name
    what more do I need?
