Sunday's Tech Sermon: A Look At Jacob, Esau And One Of The Co-founders Of SwiftKey

Hehe, I promise,  the title wasn’t a click bait.
If you did any religious study, you should remember the story of Jacob and Esau and how Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for a meal, it so happens that the co-founder of Swiftkey went through the same experience, the only major difference is that he sold his birthright for way worse – a bicycle!

Confused? Don’t be.
This week, reports had it that one of the co-founders of Swifkey,  Chris Hill Scout cashed in his stake in the company (SwiftKey) for a bicycle! Meanwhile, the two co-founders, Jon Reynolds and Ben Medlockare are now millionaires after Microsoft bought Swiftkey for $250 million.
Swiftkey
So why did he cash in his stake for something as insubstantial as a bicycle? According to IBTimes, the fact that he was putting in so much work and long hours coupled with the lack of salary was too hard to handle so he left to design websites for the government.  Meanwhile fast forward to 2016, the  two co-founders are now millionaires after pocketing $25 million each from the sale to Microsoft, I can bet that if Hill Scott had known this would happen sometime in the future, he would have thought twice.

Moral of the story: From Struggle comes success – if you give up at the first sign of struggle, you are not ready to be successful
Assignment: (I feel like a Sunday school teacher )  Based on today’s story and also based on true life story,  What advice will you give to someone like me who got a N7 million offer for a really huge stake in MissTechy?

You alone can run MissTechy perfectly. I read here cause I love MissTechy, the way she writes, the way she gives title (s) and Gifs. If it’s about the 7 million, I can promise 100 folds of it will come, only if you don’t give up or sell your birthright. Happy Sunday.

Don’t accept the stake, you’ll start making much more than that in the near future.

hmmn intersting, but your question is not complete, what do the party brought to the table apart from the 7,000,000 Naira . . . (Think future!!)
Remeber, its preferable to own 30% of a million dollar company than to own a million naira company.
So more than the money, the decision should be on your future plan for Misstechy, and how it will be affected by the interested party.

  10. ỌBÁDÁRÀ says:

… Well, as a white man, I believe some people can raise him up into millions of dollars too since he also part ways into tech. MissTechy, biko, seven million is no small money, but wait till the next seven years and then only sell a seven % stake of your tech outfit. Remember no big company survives sole proprietorship and also remember what Rockefeller did to his competitors…

Stick to your game and dont sell it. If the person hadnt seen anything(betta misstechy.com), he wouldnt have offered 7million. Then to that man(swift key guy), are there no doctors around them to diagnose his mental status?

  14. Gabriel says:

As Bede advised, so will I. keep it growing. you’ll be the next Linda Ikeji on the tech side of things.
Pls.. again I say, “don’t sell it”

  15. Joshua says:

don’t sell, for the person to offer 7M, they saw a site worth way much more. keep up the word and it will surely be rewarded the same way you no more lack comments here

  16. Don’t sell it for any reason, some company just want to buy with no plan in place to continue running it and some will buy it in order to kill competition
but you can sell a stake in it, like 1.5 percent for the 7 million
