When Tech Meets Education: University Of Ilorin May Use Drones For Exam Monitoring

Unilorin’s Chemical Engineering team feels the University might use the drones they developed to monitor examinations within the campus in future, that is if the authorities accede to their suggestions.

The Unilorin Drone Team Coordinator, Prof. Sulyman AbdulKareem revealed that some departments in the university have started showing interest in the use of the drone.  According to him:

“I believe that apart from giving practical knowledge to those in Geography, Electrical Engineering and Physics, virtually any Department that may have a reason to capture events beyond what is in front of the camera, which has to be aerially covered, can use the drone.”

Another member of the team, Dr Yakubu said that drones can be used to monitor the conduct of examinations in the future; we can use it for surveillance on the campus and when you look at all these, it will be of advantage to the whole University.”

My issues with this:
1.  Drones have a limited flight time.
2. They can be very noisy.
All issues aside, I think it’s a welcome development and will make them the first university to start using Drones for exam monitoring in Nigeria, where is Covenant University, please?

Nice innovation, but I think we don’t need this for now in our education sector.
This will even be a distraction to exam candidates.

As long as we are still Nigerians, nna forgerit. You’d be surprise the camera feed will be hacked and rather than showing the current exam hall, it will be showing that of the previous year.

Interesting stuff. I want to believe they won’t use a noisy drone for exam monitoring. It has to be something they would have considered too while building them.
As for flight time, nothing says they have to use the same drone throughout the exam duration. Lol.
