Siri is to Apple as Cortana is to ___________?
If you were to ask me that question last year, I won’t hesitate to tell you that the answer to that question is Microsoft. However, Microsoft’s quest to ensure their software is integrated with all OS platforms has made them sell their soul to the devil in exchange for fame and fortune.
If you have been in the loop, you should know already that Microsoft wants to bring Cortana to Android and IOS. However, yesterday the beta version of Cortana surfaced online and as I type currently, you can now use Cortana on an Android device – but not officially.
According to Pocketnow “You can snag the APK through the link below (as long as it lasts), but if you do so, know that you’re accessing the software and service outside official channels (and taking responsibility for any risks that follow). That said, we gave it a spin on our own Galaxy S6 Active, and it appears to be working just fine. Well, largely fine – it didn’t play nicely with the GS6A’s pop-up view, but that’s hardly Microsoft’s fault”
The beta version works flawlessly and you get Cortana to do things like fetch weather data, text someone, set reminders or other basic tasks, though since this is a beta version you can say “Hey Cortana” to wake her up.
I am not so sure if the leaked beta version would be available for long, but you can quickly download it and take it on a spin. To download Microsoft Cortana For Android, click here, ensure you log in with your Microsoft account.
It is 19.1mb in size – Do Install the apk and tell me what you think.
