I am sure you all are aware of the rumor about Blackberry adopting the Android OS, however, no confirmation has been made from the Canadian manufacturers. Yesterday, a Blackberry developer posted a picture on his twitter page that showed a Blackberry Passport with an Android Lollipop OS
The device has the model name – SQW-ANDS with its last four figures supposedly indicating the Android version.
Truth be told, this could be fake, as even an amateur photoshopper like me can achieve this.
However, I have two opinions about this, First, it might be a marketing gimmick by Blackberry to increase awareness about the brand and their new product. But given Blackberry’s silence on the matter, there might also be an iota of truth in this.
In the meantime, Blackberry is going to launch a device by November which has the codename Venice, the device might either be an Android or BB10 OS and is said to be a slider smartphone (Don’t know why they would want to go back to the 90s ) – see the image below:
Major specifications of the Venice Device include
- 5.4 Inch Quad- HD Display
- 1.8GHz Hexacore with 64-bit Snapdragon 808 processor.
- 18MP Back camera
- 5MP Camera
- A whopping 3GB RAM.
….and the rest they say, is history.
I would still stick to my belief that this might be a marketing gimmick to create awareness for their brand – As always, I would be watching Blackberry in 3D to see how all this turns out.
By the way, how do you feel about a Slider device?
It was previously believed that the BlackBerry Venice as discussed in the article might be the one getting Android as its operating system, however, this is not the case. According to N4BB, Blackberry is building a different device called the Blackberry Prague, rumors have it that it would be a low-end device. The Prague is rumored to be similar in design to Blackberry Z3.
