HTC M9 VS SAMSUNG S6: THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY

This is long awaited battle between the Flagship phone Giants, Both phones were officially launched yesterday March 2nd 2015, after reading so many reviews about the two giants, here is a MissTechy’s review of the HTC M9 and the Samsung S6

HTC M9 VS SAMSUNG S6: SCREEN

The Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with a 5.1-inch, QHD 2K AMOLED screen
While the HTC One M9 comes with a 5-inch, 1,920 x 1080 Super LCD 3 screen

HTC decided to go with 5-inch 1920x1080p screen for the One M9, which raised a lot of negative reviews online, because of the S6’s 2,560×1,440p. According to several review sites like pocketnow.com, this isn’t so bad because they use a special LCD technology to boost the colours and contrast ratio.

Meanwhile, the Samsung S6 decided to come with a bang this time around, with a Super AMOLED, 5.1-inch 1440x2560p QHD screen, not only that, the S6 also powers up to 600 nits of brightness when outdoors

HTC M9 VS SAMSUNG S6: DESIGNS

HTC M9 vs Samsung S6

The Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with a 6.9mm thick, aluminium unibody and glass panel
While the HTC One M9 comes with a 9.5mm thick, aluminium casing

Samsung ditched its plastic casing for a sleek-looking aluminium metal trim, they also added Gorilla Glass 4 on the back and the front so that you can have a firm grip when handling the phone. The home button now has a good click action, unlike the way it was soft on the S5,

Guess what guys?? the S6 now feature a fingerprint scanner that is baked into the physical home button.

This time around, HTC M9 took the boring road, by sticking with its all-metal design from the One M8, the One M9 still has the dual speaker grill which is more like its predecessors but to add a bit of uniqueness, HTC added a new two-tone metal finish to the M9.

HTC M9 VS SAMSUNG S6: STORAGE

The Samsung S6 comes with various variants of storage types available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB forms. While the HTC M9 comes with one variant of storage type; The 32gb

Remember when rumors were flying that the S6 copied a bit from the iPhone 6, well It is true, Samsung has finally ditched their memory card tradition just like the iPhone but with that comes the no micro SD Card Support, sorry guys!

The HTC M9 followed through on the M8 by having an expandable slot of about 128Gb.

It is amazing to note that both HTC and Samsung give you around 100GB of free Dropbox cloud storage for free for two years to backup videos, photos and documents.

HTC M9 VS SAMSUNG S6: Power

The Samsung  S6 comes with an Exynos 7420 octo-core with 3GB RAM, Mali T760 GPU
While the HTC  M9 comes with a 64-bit Snapdragon 810 octo-core with 3GB RAM, Adreno 430 GPU

Guys!! Samsung did away with a Qualcomm’s new 64-bit Snapdragon 810 instead they used their own  custom-built chipset. Samsung’s Exynos setup packs four 1.3GHZ Cortex-A53 poet cores and four 1.9GHz Cortex-A57 efficiency core. While HTC went with the 810 that uses four 2GHz Cortex-A57 power core and four 1.5GHz Cortex-A53 efficiency core.

According to Trusted reviews,  the Samsung S6 has a 30 to 35% more power efficiency than the HTC M9 🙁

HTC M9 VS SAMSUNG S6:  Camera

design

The Samsung S6 comes with a 16-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front camera, single LED flash and an OIS
While the HTC One M9 comes with a 20-megapixel rear camera, 4-megapixel front camera, dual LED flash.

The HTC  M9 moved their UltraPixel sensor to the front for mad Selfie actions and added a 20-megapixel for the back camera, they beat the Samsung S6 by having a Dual Led Flash as opposed to the Single LED flash on the S6. However, following the Note 4, the Samsung S6  now has an added optical image stabilization (OIS) to aid low-light shooting.

HTC M9 VS SAMSUNG S6: Software

The Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with an Android Lollipop with TouchWiz UI
While the HTC One M9 comes with an Android Lollipop with Sense 7.0 UI

HTC M9 comes with the regular interface, your sense UI and a Blinkfeed, meanwhile, Samsung’s comes with a TouchWiz UI, The only difference Samsung made was to scale back on the number of bloatware apps they have, now you only have a handful of app.

HTC M9 VS SAMSUNG S6: Battery Life

The Samsung Galaxy S6 comes with a 2,550mAh Ultra power saving mode
While the HTC M9 comes with a 2,840mAh, Extreme power saver mode

Even though the S6’s battery capacity dropped compared to the S5, Samsung made sure you are not bothered by it by adding the ability to charge the phone up to four hours in ten minutes. Wow!

However, Samsung copied the likes of HTC and Apple by having a non-removable battery, which might not go well with some loyal Samsung users, however, the S6  now comes with a wireless charging support.
