MISSION: GET PEOPLE TO UPGRADE TO WINDOWS 10
1) Create a ransomware-like advertisement to annoy you into upgrading: Check
2) Threaten to charge you for upgrade after a certain date: Check
Microsoft has officially stated via the Verge that it would start charging $119 come June 30th for Windows 10 upgrades (Bear in mind that they have always stated that it won’t be free forever). If you choose to upgrade now, you will be joining over 300 million people who have upgraded to Windows 10.
If you can remember, Microsft wants to get Windows 10 on 1 billion machines in 2-3 years and this is another means of ensuring they hit that figure. If you ask me, with the number of reminders, nag screens and attempted brute force upgrades, surely the majority of people who haven’t upgraded by now just don’t want to, right?
However, the removal of the free upgrade might force the hands of baby-boomers who might be scared of shelling out $119 later.
Whichever way, Microsoft is about to see an increase in the number of people who have upgraded to Windows 10.
Would you be upgrading?
