Unboxing the Camon CM — A Large Phone Wrapped in a Slim Body.

The Camon CM probably said this to the CX:

And BHAM!! Her wish was granted:

Yes, this is the first phone I have held from TECNO Mobile that got me feeling this way:

…But I’m being too forward, so,

The Camon CM, the first ever phone from TECNO with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

Despite the fact that this looks different from what we are used to seeing from TECNO Mobile (Referring to the Full Display), the specs are quite similar to last year’s offering. You have:

  • 5.7-inch display
  • 1440 x 720 resolution
  • 16GB ROM/ 2GB RAM
  • 13MP front facing camera with flash
  • 4G LTE
  • 3000mAh
  • 13MP Rear camera with Quad flash
  • 1.3 GHz Quad-core
  • Android 7.0
  • OTG

The same goes for the accessories — there is the transparent case, MicroUSB cable/ the power adapter and the SIM ejector PIN and the manuals.

Upon powering up the device:

You get to see that the device uses soft buttons:

You also get to see TECNO’s HiOS:

Of course, those who don’t like the look can opt for a third party launcher.

Like I said earlier, not only does this thing feel slim, it is also very light coming in at 135g:

The new aspect ratio also means that TECNO can fit the large display while maintaining a smaller body.

However, while watching a YouTube video, I noticed the bars by the side, but this is a known problem for phones with the same aspect ratio.

On the flip side, you can now fit more content in the display.

Meanwhile, the bezels, although still there, have been reduced to an extent and to be honest, it is unbelievable that the CM has such a huge display given how it feels in the hand.

Also, while holding this device, I noticed that the build attracts fingerprint stains.

But that is not really a problem since it comes with a plastic case:

On the display side of things, you are not getting an FHD display, instead, TECNO is using an HD with a resolution of 1440 x 720.

As far as placements are concerned, you have the earphone jack on top

MicroSD card and the Dual SIM card slot to the left:

The volume and power buttons which have been placed to the right are quite tactile:

Beneath, you have the mono-speaker grills, and the MicroUSB port — I would have loved if this were a USB type-C though.

As usual, the back is non-removable and therein lies the 13MP back camera with quad flash and fingerprint scanner:

Looking closely, you’d realize that the 13MP camera comes with a slight camera bump, but it doesn’t really affect it from laying flat on the table.

I couldn’t resist taking some pictures and based on first impressions, I think they were pretty decent.

In front, you have the proximity sensor, 13MP front camera, and a front-facing flash.

TECNO has also added a screen protector by default:

As far as the first impression goes, the 5.7-inch Camon CM looks and feels good, however, a lot of us must have probably rolled our eyes at the specs, but with the price tag of N47,000 do you think this is a fair bargain?

The review would be coming soon, so stay tuned, but in the meantime, let’s talk.

UPDATE: Corrected the price tag.
