Meet the Phone That Wants to Take on the Camon CX Air and the Infinix Note 4.

Gionee has an answer to the Tecno Camon CX Air and the Note 4, the name?

The Gionee X1s.

Do watch the video to show some support (it’s not easy editing videos or creating them in the first place).

With that said, here is the written unboxing:

GIONEE X1s UNBOXING

If you have ever used a Gionee phone, especially from the midrange line, then the Gionee X1s package shouldn’t come as a surprise because it looks exactly the same as other packages in their midrange line.

And when you peel off the wraps (and open the lid):

You should see the Gionee X1s:

I got the black color variant, it is available in gold, but if you were to ask me, I’d say go for the black because of the black display.

This aside, and digging deeper you should see the usual stuff:

There is the leather case which I like:

Powering this immediately reveals the bezels:

And I wonder which phone manufacturer from the midrange line would be the first to give us a bezel-less display in Nigeria, fingers crossed on that one.

Now that the phone is set up, you should see fully see the 5.2 HD display on the Gionee X1s, the same HD display as the Note 4.

Placements are like this — you have the earphone jack on top:

MicroUSB port beneath:

Volume and power button on the right side:

Nano SIM cards as well as the MicroSD card slot on the left:

At the back is the 13MP back camera, a single LED flash, fingerprint sensor:

And beneath all of that is the speaker grills.

Moving to the front of the device, the Gionee X1s is equipped with a 16MP front-facing camera. Which I tried to test out in my video:

You also have the selfie flash, proximity, and notification sensor, and beneath, you have the physical buttons which do not light up:

Specification-wise, other than the difference in front camera and storage, the Gionee X1s is pretty much the same as the Gionee A1 lite, which I reviewed some weeks back.

As for the build, this is a metallic build:

With Gorilla Glass 3 protection in front.

The back is not a fingerprint magnet, but it looks like it’s going to be a stain magnet.

Asides from the Gorilla glass protection, you also have a screen guard, to further protect the screen.

With 2017 being the death of the bezels, the bezels on the X1s (and the Note 4 and the Phantom 8 and yeah, I could go on and on) might disappoint some folks

And while I don’t deny that they make the phone look older, I don’t think it affects the general usability of the phone — I was able to hit all the four corners of the device with one hand — of course, the size helped — plus, the X1s feels comfortable in the hand, it is also light coming in at 165g.

So there you have it, my unboxing of the Gionee X1s — the little guy that wants to take on the Camon CX air and the Note 4.

Do you think it can, though?
