First Glimpse of Google’s New Fuchsia Operating System (A Possible Android Replacement). Plus, How You Can Try It Out Right Now.

For those who don’t know, Google’s working on a new mobile operating system called Fuchsia that isn’t based on Linux like Android and Chrome OS, but rather is based on Google’s own microkernel called “Magenta. And we already have a glimpse at what the interface will look like.

Like this:

Yes, that is Fuchsia interface codenamed Armadillo. Armadillo (The name sounds weird) features a card-based design for managing multiple apps, it also allows cards to be dragged around and used in a split-screen format. It’s worth noting that Fuchsia is still in early days, and so its future is unclear.

However,  if you want to try the interface out, I have got an APK that could help you out. Yes, a certain Kyle Bradshaw at Hotfix pulled the UI files from Google’s Fuchsia Github page and built them into an APK that can be installed on most Android devices. You can click on the link to download the app (Download the Fuchsia/Armadillo APK). Those who do try this out can now see the Google Now-style card-based interface I talked about earlier.

Like I initially stated, the interface will most likely change in the near future since nothing’s concrete, yet. But it’s nice to see an interface that it’s completely different from Android.

Your thoughts?

As always with Google: minimalist UI design, Google-Now style card UI approach and the gorgeous fluid interface we are used to in Google Apps. It looks great and I think it’ll blow up into something much bigger in the nearest future.

I don’t think it can replace android OS.

I strongly feel google wants to use this OS to stand up against whatever Microsoft is planning to do with windows, bcos android and chrome os are both weaker the Windows os, and Microsoft is working day and night to achieve something that we have little idea about but its surely going to be next gen, and the Linux ecosystem won’t be able to keep up thereby slowing down google.
